Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down slightly over the month of June.
According to the state Department of Labor and Industry, the county’s unemployment rate came in at 4.6%, a drop of a tenth of a percentage point from May, continuing the trend from the prior month, which was another tenth of a point drop from the previous month. Last year at this time, Indiana County’s unemployment rate was at 4.3%. By comparison, the state unemployment rate was 4.0%, while the federal rate was at 4.1%.
Looking at the surrounding counties, Westmoreland County is at 4.1%; Armstrong, Clearfield and Cambria counties are at 4.5%. Jefferson is tied with Indiana at 4.6% for the highest in the region.
Across the state, Centre county had the lowest rate at 3.0%, while Forest County’s rate of 6.3% was the highest in the state for June.
The civilian labor force in Indiana County, which is the number of people working or looking for work, was at 34,200, while employment was at 32,300.
