Steelers players are off today, getting ready to put on their pads for the first time this week at St. Vincent College. They worked out in shorts and helmets again yesterday. Coach Mike Tomlin says the players are ready.
Tomlin was impressed with free agent safety Chuck Clark, who flew in to Pittsburgh on Thursday, drove straight to Latrobe, and was on the practice field for the weekend. Clark played six seasons for the Ravens before two injury-plagued years with the Jets. The coach appreciates Clark’s dedication…and skill.
Tomlin says his inside linebackers will have to be a key part of the Steelers’ coverage package, especially in today’s NFL.
Tomlin is anxious to get a look at first round draft pick Derrick Harmon in pads working against the Steelers offensive line.
Starting left tackle Broderick Jones left practice yesterday with a lower body injury. Tomlin said he would be listed as “day-to-day”. Wide receiver Montana Lemonius-Craig and fullback/tight end DJ Thomas-Jones also suffered lower body injuries. Thomas-Jones was carted off with an apparent foot or ankle injury and Tomlin said his injury “looks like it is more significant.”
