Storms struck Indiana County yesterday and made for a very busy day for emergency responders, especially in the southern portion of the county.
The action started with a call for Indiana firefighters for a physical rescue at about 3 o’clock, followed a minute later by a crash on Gamble Road in West Wheatfield Township, and another crash an hour-and-a-half later on Martin Road in White Township. Then there were five straight calls for utility lines down, three of them in Conemaugh Township, two on Newport Road and one on Lewisville Road. Lines were also down in Cramer Road in Young Township and Blacklick Road in Blacklick Township.
Just after 7 o’clock, there was a vehicle fire on Miller Avenue in White Township, followed by calls into Westmoreland County for a pumping detail and structure fire, answered by firefighters from Iselin/West Lebanon, Coal Run/McIntyre, and Tunnelton. There were pumping details along Route 22 and Tunnelton Road in Conemaugh Township, and lines down on Tunnelton Road and Blackleggs Road in Young Township, Mahoning Road in South Mahoning Township and Route 954 North in Washington Township.
