The Altoona Curve got some major league help from pitcher Johan Oviedo, who is spending a rehab assignment at the double-A level. He tossed three and a thirds innings of one-run ball, and helped the Curve beat Akron 2-1 in ten innings.
Oviedo, who has been recovering from Tommy John’s surgery, struck out three, allowed three hits and no walks, and picked up 36 strikes. The only run came as he balked with a runner on third base in the fourth inning.
Mitch Jebb tied the game in the seventh with an RBI double and the Curve took advantage of a balk to advance the placed runner in the 10th and then a wild pitch to bring the runner home.
The Curve and the Rubber Ducks play again tonight with Antwone Kelly starting for the Curve against Akron’s Trenton Denholm.
