Police in Westmoreland County have charged a woman with fraudulently trying to cash a check using a Homer City woman’s identity information.
Police in Murrysville apprehended 62-year-old Carol Folzenlogen of Cincinatti as she was trying to cash a $3,523 check at First National Bank. She is also accused of a similar scheme at the same bank on April 7th, along with two other First National locations in Greensburg.
Troopers say she may part of a group that commits mail fraud, steals peoples’ identities and then withdraws money in their accounts. Similar incidents were reported in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana.
While she has not been charged for the incidents in April, she faces charges of forgery, identity theft and other crimes for the most recent incident, and is now in Westmoreland County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. Preliminary hearings and an arraignment hearing is set for Tuesday.
