State police have released data for the 4th of July holiday enforcement period.
In the four-day period from July 3rd through the 6th, state troopers investigated 803 total crashes. Nine of those crashes were fatal, and 12 people were killed. Compared to last year’s five-day enforcement period, there was a decrease in the number of crashes and fatal crashes, but the number of fatalities remained the same. Police say 157 of the crashes reported this year had at least one person injured. 58 of the crashes were DUI related, but none of the DUI crashes resulted in a fatality.
Troopers also arrested 458 people on DUI, issued over 5700 speeding tickets, 634 seat belt citations, 131 tickets for child safety seat violations, and close to 15,000 other tickets.
These stats reflect calls that state police responded to only, and do not include incidents where other law enforcement agencies responded.
A breakdown of the activity of Troop A, which covers most of Indiana and Westmoreland and all of Cambria and Somerset counties, has not been made available.
