The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission late last month approved two plans aimed at improving transportation safety across the 10-county region that includes Indiana.
One of those will be the Active Transportation Plan, which will offer detailed data, maps and resources to support the development of bike lanes, pedestrian trails, and other active transportation projects. The goal of the plan is to improve connectivity and promote healthier and more sustainable travel options. The second plan, the Regional Safety Action Plan is meant to compliment the ATP. The goal of the RSAP is to outline strategies to reduce traffic crashes, enhance pedestrian safety and upgrade infrastructure. This will highlight some real-world safety improvements, and will build on recent regional safety data to address high-risk areas identified through community input and data analysis.
The public, community leaders and industry professionals are invited to give their input as implementation begins. Links to the plans can be found below.
