The Shapiro administration is saying thousands of Pennsylvanians will be affected by the passage of President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”.
More than 300,000 Pennsylvania residents who are currently enrolled in Medicaid for their healthcare coverage would lose it under the spending proposal. The legislation is before the U.S. House after being modified and passed by the U.S. Senate. In addition to the Medicaid losses, 144,000 residents of Pennsylvania could lose their food assistance.
Shapiro also said that 26,000 jobs in building trades will be threatened and $3 billion in investment could be lost in Pennsylvania due to energy sector-related cuts, and would add more than $3 trillion to the national deficit.
Republicans who support the bill say the measures are necessary to avoid tax increases due to the expiration of tax rules, along with funding defense and border walls and making changes to eliminate alleged waste and fraud in Medicaid.
