Mike Jarvis had two hits and his bases-loaded catch-and-throw double play from right field gunned down the potential tying run at the plate and ended the game as Altoona won its third straight game, 3-2 over Chesapeake.
Holding a 3-1 lead entering the ninth, the Curve’s Tyler Samaniego opened the frame by giving up back-to-back walks. Beau Burrows was summoned from the bullpen and committed a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt, allowing one run to score. Burrows then struck out Anthony Servideo and issued an intentional walk to load the bases, setting up the force play. Max Wagner then hit a fly ball to shallow right field, where Jarvis made the catch and threw home to Aaron McKeithan for the double play that sealed the win.
McKeithan had two hits and drove in two runs and Sammy Siani’s RBI infield single plated the Curve’s other run.
Allesandro Ercolani starts for the Curve tonight.
