Monday night, the Indiana School Board approved the 2025-26 budget, but it includes a 3.0% tax increase for district residents.
After a vote to raise taxes to the state-mandated maximum of 5.2%, it took eleven other votes at different taxation levels before the board came to the 3.0% increase, which will increase taxes by $78.85 a year for district residents before the Homestead-Farmstead exemptions go into place. Board President Walter Schroth said the district was $6 million out of balance, with $2 million in cyber charter school payments. He said the board even went to the Indiana Area Educators Association, the teachers’ union, to see if they would assist, and reported they would not.
The final vote on the budget was 5-3. It tops out at just over $69 million
The board also accepted the resignation of board member Dr. James Shaffer, and they also congratulated the Indiana High Baseball Team for winning the state championship.
