A meeting of superintendents from four counties was held yesterday to discuss the problem of cyber charter school funding.
Due to regulations, local school districts are required to pay tuition for students who are attending cyber charter schools. Indiana school district superintendent Rob Heinrich said yesterday’s symposium at UPJ’s Murtha Center was meant to raise awareness to what he called a broken funding system.
He said that the cyber charter payments from the four counties represented yesterday represented $33 million, and that has forced many districts this year to raise taxes.
The symposium also featured experts on the state level, including representatives from Ed Votes PA, the PA School Business Officials organization and others.
