Today is Juneteenth, which commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans learned they were free.
Federal and state offices are closed for today, including driver’s license centers. PA liquor stores will be open normal hours. County offices and courts will be open today. Indiana Borough’s office will close for the day today, but will reopen tomorrow for business as usual. For other municipal offices, please call ahead to see if they are open today.
Most local banks are closed for the day. Post offices will be closed today and there will be no regular mail delivery.
Celebrations are planned for Indiana being put on by the local chapter of the NAACP. They will be held at the Mack Park Pavillion from 3-8 today. The event, which is open to everyone, will feature Dr. Roger Briscoe II as their keynote speaker. There will also be food, music and other events. While the event is free, it’s recommended that you sign up in advance on their Eventbrite page.
