Clymer Borough’s police chief is suspended as an investigation is underway into an alleged strangulation incident yesterday morning in Pine Township.
State Police say 44-year-old Charles Waller, Jr. was charged in connection with the incident that was investigated at 7:09 AM. Troopers were sent to a home in the 200 block of Second Avenue in Heilwood after Indiana County 911 had a hangup call. The victim, identified as an adult woman, claimed that she and Waller were involved in an argument when he shoved her to the ground and strangled her with his hands. Waller was arrested on-scene and without any incident.
He faces charges of felony strangulation, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment. Waller was arraigned before District Judge Susanne Steffee and he is free after putting up 10% of $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for July 1st at 10:00 AM.
Clymer Mayor Christina King said the suspension was issued as part of state law. Waller had served as the chief of police since 2021. Further information is not being released by Clymer borough officials as the investigation is ongoing.
