Wednesday night, the Homer-Center School Board approved the 2025-26 budget, which includes a 3% tax hike.
The budget came to close to $20 million in revenues but over $21 million in expenses. The $1.14 million budget shortfall will be covered by a tax increase expected to bring in $181,000 along with using a part of the district’s fund balance. Superintendent Ralph Cecere said that there were a lot of increases in areas that are out of the district’s control, including increases in health care, special education and especially cyber charter school costs.
The tax increase will come to an average hike of $51 across all parcels.
The board also accepted with regret the retirement notice of paraprofessional Monica Maggio after 25 and a half years of employment with the district.
