Aaron Rodgers was there yesterday for the start of Steelers minicamp. TJ Watt was not. Rodgers was a full participant in the workout on the first of three scheduled days. he signed a one-year contract with the Steelers on Saturday.
Coach Mike Tomlin set the tone for the minicamp, saying Rodgers is his starting quarterback, for obvious reasons.
Tomlin says the minicamp is more about getting on-field work for young guys like his sixth round draft choice, former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard, than it is about Rodgers.
TJ Watt is not at the minicamp as his contract negotiations grinds on. Tomlin took it in stride.
Rodgers says the Steelers are a great fit for him, mentioning a number of western PA football connections he’s made through the years, including two very familiar names in Indiana County.
Rodgers says he’s just trying to find his way around right now.
Number one draft choice Derrick Harmon is already a starter on the defensive line. D-line coach Karl Dunbar emphatically made that point, saying “He’s our left starting defensive tackle. You can write that.”
Minicamp Day Two is today. It’s possible Tomlin could cancel tomorrow’s final workout.
The Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett is keeping things classy, as always. Yesterday, he told reporters he wants to put Aaron Rodgers in the “graveyard.”
