Indiana County will receive $3.82 million from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to help address homelessness.
This is part of nearly $27 million that will go to programs in 38 counties. $12.3 million was approved through the HOME-American Rescue Plan Supportive Services Program and another $14.6 million will come from the HOME-American Rescue Plan non-congregate shelter program. DCED Secretary Rick Siger said that is part of the Shapiro administration’s efforts to make sure state residents have more housing options that are safe and affordable.
The money coming to Indiana County is for a non-congregate shelter program that is expected to go in on property near the ICCAP food shelter on Shelly Drive. The project will feature 20 modular units that can be combined to accommodate larger families in need. Two of the units will be specifically designed to be handicapped accessible.
