Pitcher Paul Skenes was outstanding again, even though he took a no-decision when manager Donnie Kelly took him out with no one on and two outs in the 8th. He says beating the Phillies was special.
Skenes says the Pirates are starting to see the results of their hard work.
The season-long nine-game homestand continues tonight when the Miami Marlins visit PNC Park, with Mike Burrows [1-1, 5.27 ERA] getting the start for the Pirates against Eury Perez [making his season debut]. It’s a 6:15 airtime, 6:40 first pitch on WCCS.
On The Ben Cherington Show on WCCS yesterday, the Pirates’ general manager said catcher Endy Rodriguez will have his injured elbow examined by Dr. Neil ElAttrache, the surgeon who put the elbow back together with Tommy John surgery two years ago. Cherington says as of now, the inflammation does not appear to be related to the ligament, and he is hopeful.
Cherington says Henry Davis continues to put in the work to be a legitimate big league catcher.
The GM also said that catcher Joey Bart has still not been cleared by MLB to return from concussion protocol.
