Federal spending cutbacks have led to the indefinite closures of more than 425 campsites in Pennsylvania, including at Raystown Lake, but the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says that’s led to an overall ten percent increase in campsite reservations at state parks and forests, with more than 5,400 new bookings so far this season.
From March to May, campsites within an hour’s drive of Raystown had a 33 percent increase in reservations from a year ago.
The commonwealth has added 149 new full-service campsites since last June and now offers more than 7,100 sites within its 124 state parks and 2.2 million acres of state forests.
