Home care advocates, caregivers, and families gathered yesterday for a powerful community forum with Representative Jim Struzzi.
The event, hosted by Hearts for Home Care, focused on the growing crisis in Pennsylvania’s home care system. Speakers shared emotional stories of caregiver shortages and low wages driving aides out of the field. One woman described having over ten aides cycle through her home in just three years. Another case involved a child stuck in the hospital for nearly two years because home care agencies can’t match hospital pay.
Industry leaders called on lawmakers to raise reimbursement rates and invest in home-based care, which they say is both cost-effective and preferred by most families.
Representative Struzzi acknowledged the challenges and pledged to prioritize home care in budget discussions. With demand rising and Pennsylvania trailing neighboring states, advocates say action is urgently needed.
