A Blairsville woman is accused of causing a fatal crash in Derry Township last year.
Authorities yesterday arrested 33-year-old Ashley L. Kelley on charges of homicide by vehicle, four counts of reckless endangerment, and single counts of DUI-controlled substance, and three summary driving counts connected with the crash on Route 217 February 19th of 2024. State troopers said she was driving a white van with two children inside it when the van crossed the center line and collided head-on with a car driven by 49-year-old Regina Endress of Josephine. Kelley told investigators that she didn’t realize she had gone into the opposite lane until it was too late. Officers also said that she tested positive for marijuana after the crash.
Endress was pronounced dead at the scene. One child in her car was flown to a hospital for treatment. It’s unclear if the two children in Kelley’s car were hurt.
Kelley is free on $15,000 unsecured bond. She will go before Judge Kelly Tua Hammers for a preliminary hearing on June 25th.
