There will be plenty of activity on streets and roads in Indiana Borough and White Township this week, and drivers should be alert for stoppages and delays.
Roadwork in Indiana Borough this week includes the ongoing project on the IUP campus at Pratt Drive near the intersection of Maple and Eleventh Streets, resuming on Monday. Shadco will also be continuing its work this week at the intersection of South Street and South Seventh, and on South Seventh between South Street and Washington Street.
On Thursday, Peoples Gas will be working on Water Street, Oak Street, Nixon Avenue between North Fourth and North Second streets, and Pratt Drive between Maple and West Glass streets.
White Township will conduct its annual spring yard waste collection this week. Township crews will be gathering up tree branches and trimmings, reasonably-sized shrubbery trimmings, and garden plants waste in cardboard boxes or biodegradable paper bags. Wood materials will be chipped. Boxed or bagged materials must weigh no more than 50 pounds.
No grass clippings, paper, glass, plastic, cans, or garbage will be collected and crews will only pick up items placed in an orderly manner behind the curb or ditch line before 7 AM. They will not enter onto private property. Yard waste may also be taken to the Indiana County Recycling Center along Route 119 South in Homer City.
HERE IS WHITE TOWNSHIP’S ADVISORY ABOUT THE YARD WASTE COLLECTION:
The township road crew will be traveling throughout the township May 19th through the 23rd to collect spring ward waste.
- Only residential yard waste to be collected – branches, brush and garden waste.
- NO GRASS CLIPPINGS, PAPER, GLASS, PLASTIC, CANS OR GARBAGE.
- Yard waste must be placed in an orderly manner behind the curb or ditch line of the public road before 7:00 am during pick-up week.
- WT crews will travel along public roads in the Township, collecting acceptable materials properly placed by the road.
- WT crews will not enter onto private property to retrieve any materials.
- Wood materials will be run through a chipping machine.
- Bagged or boxed materials weighing greater than 50 pounds per bag or box will not be collected.
- Items to be collected are as follows:
- Tree branches & Trimmings – less than five (5) inch diameter and eight (8) foot maximum lengths.
- Shrubbery Trimmings – reasonably sized piles and NOthorny shrubs.
- Garden waste – plant growth only, placed in cardboard boxes or biodegradable paper bags (NO PLASTIC BAGS), less than 50 pounds.
- White Township reserves the right to not collect excessive or large amounts of waste due to lot clearing operations (if in doubt call the WT office 724-463-8585 for prior approval).
- Yard waste may be delivered to the Indiana County Recycling Center at 1715 Route 119 South, Homer City.
