The Pirates claimed infielder/outfielder Michael Helman off waivers from the Cardinals yesterday and added him to the 40-man roster. He was hitting .198 for triple-A Memphis. First baseman Enmanuel Valdez was transferred to the 60-day injured list to open a roster spot for Helman.
