The union representing nurses at Indiana Regional Medical Center has announced that it approved a new three-year contract.
The Indiana Registered Nurses Association, represented by the Pennsylvania State Nurses and Allied Professionals, said that the new contract will include a wage schedule tied to retention along with a 20-year step increase and guarantees that the nurses healthcare benefits must remain stable through the lifetime of the contract; new staffing language that would prohibit nurses from being pulled to specialty units unless they already have skills and experience to be there; union representation on the hospital’s safety committee; and changes for paid time off, holidays and shift cancellations.
In a statement, IRNA president Christa Rounsley said that the new contract not only improves things for current nurses but will also attract others to the hospital for long careers.
The contract was approved by a 98 percent affirmative vote. Indiana Regional Medical Center has not issued a statement on the contract.
