Monday night, the Indiana School Board put the 2025-26 budget up for advertisement.
The budget tops out at $68,858,750, with a deficit of $4,405,23 after some teaching positions were eliminated by attrition. Superintendent Rob Heinrich said that the main problem is the issue of funding for cyber charter schools, which he calls a costly mistake.
Heinrich added that the cyber charter schools are not giving the same quality education as regular schools are.
The vote was 6-3, with Julia Trimarchi Cuccaro, Quintina Thomas and Jim Shaffer voting against advertising the budget. Work is expected to continue over the next month to bring the deficit down further before final approval on June 23rd.
The board also approved bids for a high school classroom renovation project that will upgrade the Rising Education and a Science classroom. The project’s total cost is $904,605.
