The Indiana Area School Board meets on Monday night with an agenda full of summer assignments and preparation for the next school year. A tentative budget containing a $4.3 million deficit and a 5.2 percent tax increase is up for adoption. To ease the shortfall, the board will consider cutting personnel, including an elementary teacher, a special education teacher, and several other positions, along with the drivers education program, with a total savings of nearly $600,000.
Also, the board will consider a large slate of coaching and extracurricular hires, including head coaches and/or assistants for football, soccer, cross country, golf, tennis, cheerleading, and basketball. There will be updates and in some cases change orders for the Eisenhower project, East Pike and Ben Franklin cooler/freezer projects, high school classroom project, and the stadium sound system project.
Purchase Line’s board will also consider a tentative budget and multiple personnel and program moves for the summer and coming school year. They also have an extensive list of district policies they’ve been working on.
At Marion Center’s meeting, the directors will consider a tentative budget and tax structure, the retirement of business manager Rick Martini, the list of 95 graduating seniors, and summer and new school year plans.
