It will be Homer-Center and Northern Cambria vying for the Heritage Conference baseball championship on Monday night after the Wildcats came from behind in a wild seventh inning and downed Marion Center, 6-5, and the Colts swept a doubleheader from Conemaugh Valley, 13-1 and 12-3.
Marion Center’s Cam Rising held Homer-Center at bay for six solid innings, but ran into trouble in the seventh. With one out, Brayden Rado doubled and scored on a single by Nate Birchall. Braden Dunn then singled and his brother, freshman Collin Dunn then stepped into the batter’s box and cracked his first career home run, a three-run shot that put Homer-Center on top, 6-5. Nash Budner then put the game away with a clean bottom of the seventh inning as Homer-Center finished its regular season 16-4, 13-3 in the Heritage Conference. Rado, Collin Dunn, and Dom Shimko all had two hits for the Wildcats. For the Stingers, Rising homered and had four RBIs and Trey Slovinsky had two hits.
West Shamokin needed a win to keep pace with Homer-Center in the Heritage West, but Conemaugh Township broke out for nine runs over the final three innings for a 10-0 win over the Wolves. Colin Dinyar had a huge day. He homered, tripled, and singled and drove in five runs, and on the mound he struck out fourteen and gave up just two hits and a walk. Brennan Lohr also had three hits and DJ Bambino, Kaden Valentine, and Gabrial Valentine all had two hits.
The Heritage Conference Baseball Championship will be Monday night at seven at First Commonwealth Bank Field, and on Renda Digital TV.
SOFTBALL
Marion Center downed Homer-Center, 7-0, as Gracynn Silvis had three hits, including a two-run home run. Cheyenne Silvis picked up the win in the circle.
West Shamokin has a big game at Cambria Heights today. The Wolves are 13-2 and Marion Center has completed its regular season at 14-2 in the Heritage Conference West race. With all of their losses to West Division rivals, the winner from the West could come down to run differential. Marion Center has outscored its rivals by 125 runs this season, West Shamokin has outscored theirs by 113. After that, the next and final tiebreaker is run differential head-to-head, and that’s even.
Conemaugh Valley will represent the East in the championship game. The Blue Jays beat Northern Cambria yesterday, 12-2, to end the regular season with a conference record of 11-5.
Conemaugh Township and United wrapped up their seasons yesterday, with the Indians topping the Lions, 11-2.
The Heritage Conference Softball Championship is Monday night at Northern Cambria, and on Renda Digital TV.
