BASEBALL
Homer-Center broke open a tight game with a seven-run sixth inning and Noah Turk struck out eleven batters in an 8-0 defeat of Marion Center. Turk gave up just two hits in six-plus innings. Nash Budner singled and came around to score after an outfield error on Drew Fisher’s single to break a scoreless tie in the fifth. Budner, Fisher, and Braden Dunn all had two hits. Troy Slovinsky pitched well for Marion Center, giving up just the one run in the first five innings before running into trouble in the sixth.
Conemaugh Township scored seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings and topped United 10-3. Five Indians players had two hits, led by Bryce Conn, who drove in four runs, and Reed Conn, who drove in three. Greyson Studer, Colin Dinyar, and Gabrial Valentine also each had two hits. For United, six players had a hit apiece and Dmitri Worthington drove in two runs.
Tied 4-4 after seven, Purchase Line and Penns Manor both put up runs in the eighth, with the Red Dragons scoring five then holding off the Comets for a 9-8 win. Wyatt Sheredy had four hits for PL, Jacob Stein had three, and Devlan Kordish, Christian Moyer, and Coby Byers all had two hits. Justin Vojtek had three hits for Penns Manor, and Dylan Kuzemchak and Logan Keith each had two.
SOFTBALL
Marion Center beat Homer-Center 8-1. Winning pitcher Cheyenne Silvis, Madi Schrecongost and Alivia Ruddock each had two hits for the Stingers.
Homer-Center also completed a game that was suspended last week by bad weather, and West Shamokin won that one, 8-2. Malena Stewart led the Wolves with three hits, and Avery Elkin and Evie Grantz each had two. Kylee Beer had two hits and walked twice for Homer-Center.
After closing out their win over Homer-Center, West Shamokin crushed Penns Manor, 18-1. Cameron Vandevort and Leah Mondi led the way with two hits apiece for the Wolves.
Conemaugh Township picked up its first win of the season, 12-1 over winless United.
