The tree is part of the America 250 PA celebration, where a descendant of the Liberty Tree from Boston will be planted in each Pennsylvania County as a run up to the country’s semi-quincentennial. Indiana County’s tree was placed at the White Township Recreation Complex.
The program is a cooperative effort of America 250 PA and the Masons, with members of the Pennsylvania Grand Lodge and lodges from Indiana, Blairsville and Saltsburg in attendance. District Deputy Grand Master Steven Fulton said while there was not a lot of connection between Indiana County and the revolution, the area still has a lot of history.
Bri Farrand with America 250 PA said the program has received a lot of support.
So far, 37 Liberty Trees have been planted throughout the state. You can watch a video from the ceremonies by clicking on the player below.
