Utility crews are continuing to restore power to many in Indiana County.
As of this morning, Penelec reports 4,049 people remain without power, with the highest concentrations being Saltsburg Borough and Green Township. Meanwhile, REA Energy cooperative is saying 6,553 of its members are still affected by the outages that started Tuesday evening.
Many facilities are opening up to allow people to use showers or to charge cell phones and other devices, or to pick up a hot meal for those in need. County officials are asking people to contact their township or borough office if they need assistance, or to dial 211 to be connected to services that are available.
The county is offering up a quick reference guide for those still affected by the outage. You can access that list by clicking below.
As part of the effort, Penelec’s parent company First Energy has announced a program for its customers that will allow them to get water and ice for free at Giant Eagle and at Martin’s. Those still affected by the outage will be able to claim either two one-gallon bottles of water or a 24-pack of bottled water and two seven-to-eight-pound bags or one 20-25 pound bags of ice. Those taking advantage of the offer need to tell the checkout person that they are a FirstEnergy Customer without power.
