Tuesday night, the River Valley School Board hired a new head football coach.
Ed Dalton is a familiar name to Indiana County’s high school football scene. He was a head coach at Purchase Line and helped turn that program around to become one of the powerhouse teams in the early 1990’s. He has also coached the last 12 years with McGuffey before resigning. He takes over the program from Jess Houser.
Many football players and parents spoke out in favor of keeping Houser during the meeting. One of them was a former player, Braden Staats, who said that Houser was a great impact on his life, and cares deeply for the players.
The vote was 5-4. Board member Jessica Clawson said that she felt the three-year contract offered to Dalton set a bad precedent.
Dalton was not present. Houser respectfully declined to comment.
