BASEBALL
It was a pitchers’ duel for Homer-Center and Conemaugh Valley, with Nash Budner tossing a complete-game three-hitter and knocking in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 1-0 Wildcats win. Budner struck out seven and walked just one. Homer-Center managed only four hits, including doubles by Nate Birchall and Braden Dunn. For the Blue Jays, Nate Stiffler had two hits. Jeremy Dietz threw six innings and took the loss.
Northern Cambria belted Purchase Line, 22-5. Nathan Fry had three hits, and Brad Valeria, Parker Shutty, Shawn Gisler, Reese Wagner, and Zak Kirsch all had two. Devlan Kordish led the Red Dragons with three hits, and Christian Moyer and Jacob Stein each had two.
West Shamokin had a 9-1 lead but had to score one more run in the seventh to walk off United, 10-9. The Lions scored four in the sixth and four more in the seventh to tie the game. For the Wolves, Braden Talmadge, Liam Scrips, and Luke McCullough all had two hits and McCullough drove in three runs. United’s Shaydon Oleksa had three hits and Cole McGinnis had two doubles and drove in four runs.
Portage scored three runs in the seventh inning to tie the game and two in the eighth to win it over River Valley, 7-5. Tony Lawrence had three hits, and Trae Kargo, Jonah Irvin, and Jordan Klein each had two. Jake McCoy drove in three runs. For River Valley, Gavin Burkhart had two hits and three RBIs and he and Merreck Smith each hit home runs.
Marion Center scored a run in the seventh to force extra innings, but Cambria Heights plated two in the tenth to beat the Stingers, 5-3.Tristan Weakland had three hits and drove in two runs for the Highlanders and Anthony Swander had two hits. Trey Slovinsky had three hits for Marion Center and Noah McCoy and Troy Slovinsky both had two.
Conemaugh Township scored eight in the fourth inning to break open their game with Penns Manor, going on to a 14-1 win. Five players – Kayden Valentine, Brennan Lohr, DJ Bambino, Reed Conn, and Heath Moser – had two hits for the Indians.
SOFTBALL
Marion Center shut out Cambria Heights, 3-0, as Natalie Black hit a solo home run and Kailey Anderson had a two-run shot. Cheyenne Silvis earned the win in the circle.
West Shamokin scored eight in the second inning and six in the third and beat United, 15-0, in three. Cameron Vandervort and Malena Stewart each had two hits and Stewart, Deanna Boyer, and Evie Grantz all tripled. Avery Elkin gave up one hit and struck out eight over her three innings.
Conemaugh Valley blanked Homer-Center, 11-0. Megan Bilak cracked a three-run home run and Maddie Beiter tossed the shutout, striking out seven and giving up two hits over six innings. Katie Ledwich and Maddie McCleester each had three hits for the Jays and Laine Poborski had two.
Brooklynn Walker and Alora Phillips each had two hits and Rylee Mahaffey drove in four runs as Purchase Line knocked off Northern Cambria, 7-0. In the circle, Mahaffey struck out fifteen, giving up three hits and a walk. Julia Mitory had two hits for the Colts.
Penns Manor’s Allie Rhea had three hits with a double and a home run and drove in five runs and Macey Pegg had two hits in a 13-2 win over Conemaugh Township. Taylor Jarvis had two hits for CT.
