His teammates have voted Sidney Crosby the Penguins’ MVP for the 13th time in his career. That breaks a tie with Mario Lemieux for the most ever. Crosby has 27 goals and 54 assists to lead the Pens with 81 points. He was also voted the Players’ Player Award for leadership on and off the ice.
Forward Noel Acciari was chosen for the Unsung Hero Award, as “a player who constantly gives 150% effort but receives little recognition.”
The Penguins placed forward Emil Bemstrom on waivers yesterday, although he skated on the fourth line in practice. If he is unclaimed by 2 PM today, he can be reassigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Coming off a 1-0 overtime win over Ottawa on Sunday, coach Mike Sullivan said goaltender Tristan Jarry is proving again that he belongs in the NHL after being sent to the minors in January to find his game.
Sullivan says the Penguins’ coaching staff has been working hard to uphold the Penguins’ standard of play despite a difficult season.
The Pens will play in St. Louis on Thursday.
