Edward Gaydosh, 88 of Commodore, died Monday, March 24, 2025 at Indiana Regional Medical Center. Born in Green Township, May 7, 1936, he was a son of the late Andy Gaydosh and Mary (Popik) Gaydosh. He was widowed November 24, 2004 by his wife of 46 years, Patricia (Zasadny) Gaydosh.
In 1954, Ed graduated from the former Green Township High School and furthered his education at the Westinghouse Apprentice School. He enjoyed a long career at Penelec where he worked as a welder, retiring in 1995.
Ed was an avid supporter of Purchase Line athletics. He helped to organize many events and participated in countless fundraisers. Over the years, there were very few PL football or basketball games he missed.
He was an active member of the Purchase Line Sports Boosters, a 2011 inductee into the Red Dragon Foundation Hall of Fame and a social member of the Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame.
Locally, Ed belonged to the Purchase Line Lion’s Club; Montgomery Township Rod & Gun Club; Dixonville Moose Lodge 833; Clymer Slovak Club; and was a social member of the Glen Campbell American Legion.
He was a Free and Accepted Mason with the Indiana Blue Lodge #313 where he was a Past Master 32nd Degree Mason, and belonged to the Scottish Rite and the Jaffa Shrine.
Faith was a very important part of Ed’s life. He was a very active member of Christ Our Savior Orthodox Church of Indiana, helping with many church activities, fundraisers and church dinners.
He liked to hunt, watch sporting events on TV in his living room and scratch off an occasional lottery ticket. But most of all, he enjoyed the company of his loving family and dear friends.
He will be dearly missed by his children: Edward G. Gaydosh (Angela), Hillsdale; Kevin J. Gaydosh (Christine), Norfolk, VA, and Tonya Duriez (Doug), Williamsburg, VA. His loving granddaughters are: Chauntel (Duriez) Mancuso & husband, Jesse; and Kara Duriez & fiancé, Jacob Fusco. Ed’s great grandchildren are: Penny, Ruthie, Emelia and Hunter Mancuso.
Other surviving family members include: sister-in-law, Anna Mae Parana; brother-in-law, John Ralston; sisters-in-law, Sally Gaydosh, Helen Gaydosh, Lena Gaydosh, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Patti, Ed was preceded in death by his ten siblings: Mary Macek, Vera VanWert, Rosella Federinko, Ann Likavec, Marge Hostacky, Betty Bodnar, and brothers Joseph, Andy, Mike and John.
Friends will be received Thursday, March 27 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory of Indiana (965 Philadelphia St.). A Parastas service will begin at 7 PM Thursday evening. The Very Reverend Mitred Archpriest, George Mitchell will officiate Ed’s funeral service Friday morning at 11 AM at Christ Our Savior Orthodox Church, Indiana.
Burial will follow at Saint Michael’s Orthodox Church Cemetery, Clymer.
Ed’s family thanks Dr. Andrew Cash, the staff and doctors at IRMC and St. Andrews Village for their compassionate care. In place of flowers, the family suggests donations in Ed’s name to Christ Our Savior Orthodox Church.
