Paul Skenes threw four innings and gave up a run and Billy Cook and Oneil Cruz homered as the Pirates clubbed the Yankees, 9-1, in Bradenton yesterday. Skenes struck out five and surrendered four hits with two walks. Cook, Ji Hwan Bae, and Nick Gonzalez each had two hits.
The Bucs made their second round of roster cuts yesterday, reassigning pitchers Braxton Ashcraft, Mike Burrows, and Chase Shugart to Indianapolis along with infielders Liover Peguero and Tsung-Che Cheng and utility man Enmanuel Valdez. Pitchers Isaac Matson, Ryder Ryan, and Eddy Yean, infielder Malcom Nuñez and catchers Aaron McKeithan and Omar Alfonzo were all assigned to minor league camp.
The Pirates are off today. They’ll play the Twins tomorrow.
