A new statewide program will help Pennsylvanians replace invasive trees and shrubs with native species for free.
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will use its new Invasive Replace-ive Program to let property owners remove up to five invasive plants and replace them with native vegetation for free with several events in May. Among invasive plants eligible for replacement are the tree-of-heaven, Japanese barberry – which has been reported in Whites Woods, burning bush, and the callery (or Bradford) pear.
To participate, remove an invasive tree or shrub from your property, take a photo and submit it on a pre-registration form, or attend an event. One of the removal events will take place May 10th from 1-6 p.m. in Greensburg.
