The PIAA basketball tournament gets underway for two area teams tonight and two more tomorrow.
Two District 6 runners-up are in action tonight, starting with a AAA matchup of 26-1 River Valley and District 4 third place finisher Towanda, which is 16-10 and qualified for the tournament with a 41-40 overtime win over Mount Carmel. River Valley suffered its first loss of the season to Central Cambria, in overtime, in the D6 title game last Friday. Tipoff is at 6 o’clock, with a 5:40 airtime on Cat Country 106.3 FM.
In AA, Penns Manor welcomes District 10 third place team Wilmington on 92.5 FM U92. The Greyhounds are 21-4 and were the second seed in the D10 tournament before being upset by number three Lakeview in the semifinals. They beat Eisenhower in the consolation.
Penns Manor is 22-5 and was the second seed in District 6, falling to top seed Bishop McCort in the championship game at Mount Aloysius last Thursday. Tonight’s game begins at 7 o’clock, with a 6:40 airtime on 92.5 FM U92.
Tomorrow, there are two more games. Airtime is 2:45 on WDAD for the 19-7 Indiana girls in a 5A playoff game at District 6 champion Hollidaysburg, which is 23-3. And we’re on the air at 4:40 on Cat Country 106.3 FM for the 14-12 Northern Cambria boys in a AA matchup with District 9 third place Clarion Limestone, which is 16-10.
