The Pirates were hammered by the Yankees, 12-3, last night in Tampa. Bailey Falter and Bubba Chandler bore the brunt of the onslaught. Falter threw two-and two-thirds innings and gave up three runs, two earned, while Chandler gave up four runs and lasted just a third of an inning as the Yankees busted up a 3-3 game with a five-run 5th inning.
Joey Bart launched a three-run home run for the Pirates in the third.

The Pirates yesterday claimed right-handed reliever Justin Lawrence off waivers from the Rockies and placed pitcher Johan Oviedo on the 60-day injured list with a right lat strain, pausing Oviedo’s return from Tommy John surgery.
