Creekside and Indiana firefighters were summoned to the second brush fire of the year on Monday that took out approximately one acre of land in Rayne Township.
Crews were called to a home along Davis Road shortly before 12:30 p.m. after someone burned trash and it caught some dry brush in the area. The fire bled onto the property of Crooked Creek Baptist Church, burning some areas in the cemetery beside it. No graves were damaged.

Creekside Assistant Fire Chief Cory Hitchings said crews were able to contain the fire quickly. He urged residents not to burn garbage unless “a tremendous amount of rain” comes through the area, even citing how late frosts kill off vegetation, increasing the chance of brush fires.
