The Pirates got home runs from Oneil Cruz, Nick Solak, Konnor Griffin, and Enmanuel Valdez in a 5-2 win over the Orioles.
The 18-year-old Griffin, last year’s number one draft choice, launched a tie-breaking solo home run on the first pitch of the ninth inning for his first home run as a pro and his first game-winning RBI.
Paul Skenes made his spring debut, pitching three innings, striking out four and giving up four hits, with a walk and a run allowed. He threw 53 pitches, thirty of them strikes, and unveiled two new fastballs, including a cutter. He said afterward that he was “satisfied” as he hit 99 mph several times.
Jared Jones gets the start today for the Pirates against the Tigers.
