While another significant jump was seen for Indiana County, Flu activity remains high across Pennsylvania and is continuing to decrease from previous weeks.
The state Department of Health said that as of February 21st, 172,271 lab-confirmed flu cases have been reported in Pennsylvania, with 453 flu-related deaths reported by the National Center for Health Statistics. The percentage of emergency room visits that result in a diagnosis of influenza remains high in all age groups. For Indiana county, 508 cases have been reported for the year, which is an increase of 92 over the seven-day period. The week before, Indiana County saw a jump of over 100 cases.
Allegheny County remains the county with the most flu cases this season, with 14,553 cases over the season. Erie County and portions of the southeast corner of Pennsylvania have high counts as well, but they range between 5,000 and 8,000 cases.
For RSV, the statewide pace continues to slow down, as 39,753 cases have been reported, an increase of 1,744. 97 cases were reported in Indiana County, an increase of 14 for the week.
