A memorial service will be held this afternoon at the Indiana County Courthouse for a K-9 officer who recently died.
Kort passed away last Wednesday at a pet hospital in Pittsburgh. He had been the K-9 officer for the Indiana County Sheriff’s office, and in his official capacity, he helped with narcotics detection along with tracking, area and article searches. Kort also was a presence in the community attending community events and visiting schools to show off his on-the-job skills as part of the Sheriff’s office presentation on drug awareness. Kort was fondly remembered for his companion-like nature as he would greet those that came to the county courthouse and was a great partner with the deputies.
The service will start at 1:00 this afternoon in the courthouse lobby. The community is invited to join county employees in this salute to Kort.
