Delegates at a recent legislative assembly for APSCUF unanimously passed a resolution to back Commonwealth University faculty and coaches who have expressed no confidence in the college’s president.
Earlier this month, union members at the Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and Mansfield campuses of Commonwealth University held the vote against President Bashar Hanna. He has been under fire for declining enrollment, technical failures, decreasing morale and other leadership issues. One that was focused on was the controversial firing of Bloomsburg Dean Jeffrey Krug, who claimed it was in retaliation for helping an employee file a sexual assault report in 2017. Krug was awarded $3 million in an ensuing lawsuit.
APSCUF president Dr. Kenneth Mash has previously called on Hanna to step down or Commonwealth University’s Council of Trustees to fire him. He said in a statement that the resolution was about holding leaders accountable for their actions and making decisions in the best interests of the students and faculty.
A copy of the resolution will be sent to the Commonwealth University Council of Trustees, the State System of Higher Education Chancellor, and the chair of PASSHE’s board of governors.
