Back-to-back losses on home ice for the Penguins, who miss a chance to gain ground in the Metro Division, with much of the damage done by Pittsburgh natives JT Miller and Vince Trocheck. Paul Steigerwald reports. (5-3 loss to the Rangers, despite outshooting them 39-15.)
Coach Mike Sullivan says he’d take that kind of effort from his Penguins anytime.
The Penguins lost defenseman Matt Grzelcyk in the second period when his head was slammed into the glass by hulking Rangers forward Matt Rempe, who drew a minor penalty. Bryan Rust is ready to return from injured reserve but took ill on Friday and missed both of the weekend games.
The Penguins play in Philadelphia tomorrow night, then return home to play the Flyers on Thursday.
