Spencer Horwitz was a surprise participant in yesterday’s Pirates workout in Bradenton. The newly-acquired first baseman fielded ground balls. He won’t play this spring after having right wrist surgery last week. Senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said the timetable remains in place for a return to game action in about eight weeks.
Tomczyk also had updates on pitcher Johan Oviedo, whom he said has “no restrictions” in his throwing after returning from Tommy John surgery, and on pitchers Dauri Moreta, Hunter Stratton, and minor leaguers Yerry Rodriguez and Sean Sullivan. Rodriguez has elbow pain and is seeking a second opinion.
