Steelers’ owner Art Rooney II told a select group of media members yesterday that he doesn’t expect wholesale changes but “there will be a couple changes” after another disappointing season.
Rooney also said he is confident in coach Mike Tomlin’s leadership but “it’s hard to say (they’re) closer” to a postseason run that doesn’t end after one game, as the Steelers did for the fifth time in their last five playoff years.
On personnel matters, Rooney said he believes the Steelers will try to sign Russell Wilson or Justin Fields to play quarterback next season, but not both. He would like to sign TJ Watt to a contract extension as the outside linebacker enters the final year of his current deal, and the Steelers are still deciding whether or not to offer a new contract to enigmatic wide receiver George Pickens.
