The Penguins’ seven-game road trip got off to a promising start but now they have lost two games in a row and they skate into San Jose tonight in last place in the Metro Division and seven points out of a Wild Card playoff slot. Seven teams stand between them and the second Wild Card in the Eastern Conference.
San Jose is in an even worse position. With 34 points, the Sharks have the worst record in hockey.
The Pens sent rookie defenseman Owen Pickering to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before Saturday’s loss in Seattle, then struggled against the offensively-challenged Kraken in a 4-1 loss.
Coach Mike Sullivan says it was a typically poor defensive effort.
Faceoff tonight is shortly after 10:30 on 92.5 FM U92. We’re on the air at 9:30.
