Pennsylvania set an all-time record in energy usage over the last few days that featured bitter cold temperatures.
PJM Interconnection, a regional transmission organization based in Norristown, said the preliminary record for winter demand happened around 8:15 Wednesday morning, which saw an instantaneous peak at 145,000 megawatts. This beat a record set in February 2015, which saw demand peak at 143,700 megawatts in the state.
PJM Vice President of Operations Mike Bryson, Sr., said they and their member companies took “a number of steps” to prepare for the frigid conditions between Tuesday and Wednesday, and that they worked closely with other organizations to help resolve any cold-weather issues prior to the deep freezing period.
Data for energy use in Indiana County was not released.
