People will be out in Indiana County tonight conducting a census on the homeless population.
The annual “Point in Time” survey will be conducted tonight and into tomorrow morning. The annual count of homeless is required by the department of Housing and Urban Development, and will focus on “unsheltered” individuals. Along with the annual tally, Lisa Spencer with the county Department of Human Services said that surveys have been sent out across the county to landlords and other stakeholders asking if they have seen homeless people.
Spencer will be assisted by Indiana County Sheriff Bob Fyock and other volunteers in the survey. The results of the census will help determine the funding that should be provided to the county to help homeless families and individuals.
Anyone with questions can call the Department of Human Services at 724-463-8200 extension 3.
