A barn was destroyed by a fire last night in Washington Township and firefighters were called out twice this morning as the fire rekindled.
Elderton and Creekside fire crews were called out at 8:23 PM along with the RIT team and Citizens Ambulance to Cribbs Road in Washington Township. Creekside fire officials said on the department’s Facebook page that the barn was engulfed in flames when they arrived. After one wall of the barn collapsed, the roof came down on two firefighters, but crews were close by and were able to extricate the firefighters. They came out unharmed and went back to work.
Coal Run/McIntyre, Plumville and Indiana Fire departments provided additional manpower, and Commodore assisted Citizens with a rehab area. Washington Township assisted by spreading anti-skid materials and supplied a backhoe to remove one side of the roof to get easier access.
Elderton, Creekside and Plumville fire departments were called out as the fire rekindled at 2:54 AM and 5:14 AM.
No word yet on the cause of the fire or if there were any animals in the barn at the time.
