The IUP basketball teams open the PSAC West portion of their schedules today with a doubleheader at Edinboro. The women tip off at 1 o’clock with the men to follow at 3.
It’s a good matchup in the first game. Coach Craig Carey’s women bring a stellar 11-1 record into the game, with a 6-0 mark in the PSAC. IUP is coming off a 77-74 win over Daemen on Friday. Edinboro is 11-2 and 7-0.
It’s the 98th time the two programs have met and IUP holds a slim 49-48 lead in the rivalry.
The men’s game features a young IUP team sporting a 7-6 record, 3-3 in the PSAC. Edinboro is 6-7 and 3-4. IUP belted Thiel, 83-58, in their last game, on Thursday.
Coach Joe Lombardi says the Fighting Scots bring a lot to the table, with aggressive defense and an offense led by Cenker Evran underneath and Clarion transfer guard Steve Kelly out front.
We are scheduled to bring the games to you on 92.5 FM U92, although we are still working out broadcast details with Jack Benedict unable to do the doubleheader this afternoon.
